I have always been a little competitive with myself and with others when it came to running. Pace, distance, & PR’s became one of my biggest motivators as I sought to conquer the road one kilometer at a time. I soon discovered that the drive to become a better person was always within me and now I had found the trigger to unleash it. It’s within all of us, we just need to find it, cultivate it and unleash it. I did, and it began to transform my life. It is the desire to be a healthier me, to be the best dad I can be, to have quality of life, to treat myself with respect, to love myself, and to continually strive to achieve my goals and reach my full potential.
I became a runner, not knowing that the runner within me would become an agent of change, a reflection of a better me….a mirror of dreams yet to be realized and potential not yet seen. Pace, distance and PR’s may have driven me in the beginning of this journey, but now it has become more than that.
I find joy in the thought of being able to inspire others on their journey. To read stories of friends who have made the commitment to become a better version of themselves is exciting. To see first-hand friends who have transformed their lives by finding their own drive is priceless. Friends who would hardly even consider walking, now running. To go for a run around the harbour and see the large number of people who are pushing forward to attain their goals. Doing it together…smiling…laughing..just enjoying life. To participate in the Power to Hope 5K and see how a community can come together, even in the rain, to support a cause. To run side by side with friends and watch change happen right before my eyes.
This all means more to me than pace and PR ever could. This is what it is all about.
