Lacing up and getting back out there was like a breath of fresh air after a long cold winter. Finding myself lacking in motivation, my runners were put on the shelf for months. Hearing that beep on my Garmin for the first time, and all the running that would follow, was just what I needed to remind me of the one thing I had seemed to have forgotten – the joy of the run.
It’s more that just putting in the miles. It’s more than just getting faster and going further. It is not about how many hills I climb or how many records I can break. This is not what gets me up at 5:30am to watch the sun take on the day as I run around this beautiful town.
I run because it is where I find joy. I run because it gives me a greater perspective on life. I run because it gives me a greater appreciation for God’s wonderful creation. I run because it pushes me to become a better me. I run for my health. I run for my son, to show him what it means to be driven and passionate, to show him that his daddy will always run this race with a smile on his face.
You see, I am the Joyful Runner. No matter where I find myself in this life I will always find joy in the run. I may not know what roads lay ahead or where these feet may take me, but I do know that I will always run with joy.
